Responsibilities
Prioritize and lead technology and product development programs in low-temperature superconductor Nb-Ti and Nb3Sn systems.
Interface with customers and suppliers to resolve technical issues related to product manufacturing, cost, and use.
Support other business functions to meet customer requirements and business objectives.
Maintain and manage departmental budget.
Develop technical staff, manage performance, and succession planning.
Create and manage short-, mid-, and long-term goals and objectives.
Conduct business review meetings with key stakeholders to assess risk and identify opportunities.
Establish and maintain effective relationships within the organization and with key customers, suppliers, and collaborators.
Develop new technologies or products to meet stakeholder expectations.
Generate intellectual property, including patent applications.
Ensure customer satisfaction by aligning product development with external funding and technical collaborations.
Implement strategic planning and proposals effectively.
Collaborate with key personnel to clarify specifications and expectations.

Required
Ph.D. in materials science, physics, or a related discipline is required, as is experience in applied superconductivity.
A proven record of new technology and product development with experience, including publications in peer-reviewed technical literature.
A candidate with extensive superconductor development and manufacturing experience in a lean manufacturing environment would be ideal.
Given that this is a senior role, at least 10 years of technical and/or operational management experience would be expected. (This would be typical, although this is dependant on the scope of previous jobs and the track record of the candidate.)
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to distil information and data from multiple sources, to create a focus on root cause resolution of complex problems.
Ability to develop and manage long term and high-level plans, but also to work with pace and in detail in a hands-on manner as needed to resolve pressing technical and tactical business issues.
Facilitator skills e.g., leading cross functional teams / problem solving and diagnostic skills etc.
Development and performance management through teams and individuals, particularly within a matrixed organization.
Willingness to travel globally, occasionally, and sometimes frequently as needs arise
Willingness to engage with coworkers at all organizational levels and be willing and able to work “hands on” from time to time and as necessary to develop deep understanding of our products and processes to help inform development, improvement, and troubleshooting activities.
