Electric Engineer, Distribution Designer

Responsibilities
Ability to represent self professionally in the client’s image while meeting with property owners, other engineering firms and construction resources.
Ability to stay abreast with the changing technologies, work planning, and design methodologies associated with Electric Distribution Design.
Ability to mentor and/or train other staff members to transfer personal design knowledge to others.
Proficient with the design of both overhead and underground electric distribution facilities.
Ability to recognize electric distribution framing and components 4kV through 35kV, to initiate designs for construction or reconstruction of both overhead and underground distribution facilities.
Ability to perform distribution line design calculations for structure loading, guying, geometric angle calculations, conductor sag interpretation, unitized framing design, construction practices and construction safety guidelines using industry tools and methods.
Ability to take personal responsibility for the quality, accuracy and time constraints of work products.
Possess strong analytical and technical problem solving skills.
Ability to multi-task several projects through different requirements of design iterations and priority shifts.
Proficient with the use of a laptop computer, and related software programs including, MS Outlook, MS Excel and MS Word.
Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
Strong skills of time management and multitasking.
Ability to work outdoors for extended hours in various climate conditions and travel, including overnight stays for up to five nights.
Ability to walk over and across various terrain and carry surveying instruments, field and staking equipment for the purpose of laying out staking for Electric Distribution Design.
Ability to use tools to clear brush, or shallow excavation to locate property identifiers for the purpose of staking and design of distribution facilities.
Familiarity of the operation and maintenance of electrical distribution systems.
Familiarity of joint construction and electric utility best practices.
Knowledge of Electric Distribution construction framing techniques, construction practices and their components.
Use of surveying equipment and gathering of geospatial points.
Prefer the ability to interpret property line boundary, topographic surveys, as-built surveys, construction staking, ROW staking and collection of geospatial points.
Use of electronic design/estimation software to prepare cost estimates using unitized labor and material units, work instructions and construction sketches.
Prefer the experience and ability to research and collect property deed information at record facilities for the evaluation of existing or proposed easements, establish ownership information and definition of property boundaries.
Familiarity with the NESC and its applications to electric distribution line design.
Familiarity with the procedures for permit acquisition involving TxDOT, City, County, State and Federal applications.

Required
Must possess a High school diploma or equivalent, ability to pass background check and drug screening and possess a current Texas Driver’s License with an insurable driving record.
