Responsibilities
Project oversight of new product design and development work
Principle engineering responsibility for department projects
Support maintenance and improvements of existing products
Develop subordinates in technical and leadership areas
Contribute at the executive staff level for engineering needs
Contribute to the strategic planning process
Build relationships with engineering counterparts of customers
Develop and maintain engineering department metrics
Review and approve final engineering drawings
Establish work plans and staffing for projects
Coordinate project activities to ensure progress and budget adherence
Provide technical advice and resolve problems within the project team
Assist in estimates/proposals and technical support for Sales
Communicate corporate information regarding engineering aspects
Partner with the leadership team and contribute to strategic planning
Create a culture of performance and continuous improvement
Develop and maintain engineering performance metrics
Ensure compliance with engineering department procedures and regulations
Evaluate talent base and department bench strength
Conduct performance reviews and identify training needs
Recruit, train, and provide performance evaluations for engineering staff

Required
5 or more years in a lead mechanical engineering role requiring supervisory or leadership activity.
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, aerospace engineering, or another related field
Excellent communication skills and mastery of quality science in order to capably interact with all customer engineering, quality, and purchasing contacts; within the organization (AVI), and with its suppliers.
Preferred
Preferred background in dealing with aerospace requirements (industry experience) and automotive.
