Responsibilities

Provide aerodynamic and flight mechanics expertise for Submarine Launched Ballistic Missile (SLBM), Conventional Prompt Strike (CPS), and other potential future strategic and/or conventional Reentry Systems.
Lead aerodynamic, trajectory, fuzing, pre- and post-flight analysis efforts across all reentry programs.
Anticipate future needs or trends in flight mechanics analysis programs and investigate the application of new technology or approaches.
Interface with program sponsors, technical staff, other government organizations, and contractors to coordinate solutions to meet reentry system requirements.
Provide technical advice in the specialized area of flight mechanics capabilities and performance to sponsors, technical staff, and program leadership.
Investigate performance and applicability of advanced hypersonic concepts for possible reentry systems utilization.
Apply statistical methods for the analysis of the effects of atmospheric ice/liquid water content and dust clouds on ballistic reentry body thermal protection systems.
Plan and coordinate special projects to facilitate the training and development of interns, rotation assignees, and junior engineers and scientists.
Serve as a mentor and coach in the development of junior employees.
Identify collaborative analysis opportunities and propose, plan, and coordinate collaborative analysis work efforts.

Required

Must be a US Citizen.
Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.
New employees to the Department of the Navy will be required to successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check.
Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
This position is covered under the Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act (DAWIA). Certification in the Acquisition Functional Area and category assigned to the position is required within established category timeframes.
FOR THE 1550 SERIES: This position is designated as a Cyber IT/Cybersecurity Workforce position. You must obtain and maintain the credentials as described in SECNAV M-5239.2 for framework role 0801, level Advanced within 12 months of appointment.
Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the ND-04 (GS-12/13 equivalent) pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector as a professional engineer or scientist coordinating or conducting research, development, test & evaluation, modeling & simulation, integration, or in-service engineering of ballistic missile systems or missile re-entry systems.
