Responsibilities

Continuously monitor and maintain all factory equipment for efficiency and function.
Make necessary maintenance and rebuild repairs of mechanical equipment and systems.
Maintain knowledge of equipment function, maintenance, and repairs including conveyors, pumps, hydraulic systems, packaging systems, etc.
Work closely with Factory Manager, technicians, and Electrician to ensure optimum equipment operation.
Assist with crew training in equipment safety and procedures.
Support lubrication program, inventory maintenance, and parts requisitions.
Identify and address worn or damaged equipment, communicate maintenance needs.
Schedule maintenance, repair, and labor needs for shipyard layup periods.
Oversee shipyard maintenance and repair program, document workflow and inventory.
Maintain knowledge of factory equipment safety and systems updates.
Communicate effectively and work as part of a team with supervisors, crew, and vendors.
Provide staffing needs, rotation plans, and performance feedback.
Fulfill duties in a safe manner, participate in safety orientations and meetings.
Lead by example in the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and instruct crew in PPE requirements.
Employ and document Lock Out/Tag Out protocol procedures.
Maintain knowledge of emergency procedures and equipment.
Ensure approved materials are used for cleanup and repair of machinery.
Attend all planned meetings and training sessions.

Required

Formal certification or equivalent training and experiential knowledge in fish processing equipment, maintenance and repair
Ability to demonstrate effective verbal and written communication
Accurately maintain/support documentation protocols
Lock Out/Tag Out training or ability to attain training certificate through company provided training
Continued education in processing equipment and implementation in the vessel factory environment
Experience with fabrication and equipment design as necessary
Adaptable to changes in production requirements and the need for equipment maintenance and repair
Able to navigate steep stairways, gangways, Jacob's ladder and/or upper bunk unassisted
Dexterity: able to work while wearing gloves, rain gear, and maintain balance while walking/standing
Visual acuity, with or without corrective lenses, capable of fine detail, and distance vision
Standing for long periods of time, pushing/pulling, reaching, twisting/turning, hand-eye coordination
Movements occasionally include lifting up to 60lbs, bending/stooping, squatting/kneeling, climbing and crawling
Regularly requires the ability to communicate direction and information, read and identify signs and alerts in English
Regularly requires symbol recognition and memorization
Able to adjust to shipboard working and living conditions in close quarters, far from home for long periods
Employees taking medication or requiring eyeglasses or contacts need a backup pair/sufficient supply to last at least 90 days
Maintains physical and dental health in preparation for work at sea, far from medical facilities, pharmacies or dental services
Employees provide their own rain gear: boots, pants and jacket. Rain gear should be clean, waterproof and comfortable over clothing
