Responsibilities
Participate in the design, development, and implementation of a custom S3 compatible object store solution that spans thousands of servers
Deploy, troubleshoot, and optimize off-the-shelf S3 compatible object storage solutions
Perform Linux engineering and administration for thousands of bare metal and virtual machines
Monitor, maintain, and operate the production environment
Troubleshoot server hardware issues
Automate common tasks
Participate in on-call rotation and provide subject matter expertise in on-prem object storage solutions
Write scripts and programs for automation, tools, frameworks, dashboards, alarms
Physically install hardware when required

Required
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, information technology, computer information systems, or STEM discipline and 3+ years of IT systems engineering experience OR 5+ years of experience in IT systems engineering without a degree
Experience with S3 compatible object storage (i.e. Ceph)
Experience with client and server hardware/software, management tools, enterprise networking, virtualization, and security technologies
Preferred
Demonstrated experience designing, documenting, and implementing complex multi-tiered cost-effective storage deployments
Experience collaborating with Windows, Linux, and network engineers and developers
Experience gathering system usage and performance data for reporting and trending
Storage capacity planning, vendor management and procurement
A strong desire to automate everything
Ability to clearly communicate and convey highly technical ideas in terms non-geeks can understand
A motivated self-starting personality, able to work independently while maintaining patience with constant interruptions and multiple requests
Comfortable working with mission-critical and sensitive systems, with a sense of urgency appropriate to the responsibilities
Physical installation of hardware may be required at various times
Must be willing to work extended hours and weekends as needed
