Responsibilities

Monitor incoming email traffic for potential phishing attempts using email security tools such as Proofpoint, Microsoft Defender for Office 365, and other email filtering solutions.

Analyze phishing detection alerts and review suspicious emails flagged by automated systems or reported by users.

Assist in investigating phishing emails by analyzing headers, URLs, attachments, and suspicious content to identify indicators of compromise (IoCs).

Coordinate with senior analysts to classify emails as phishing or safe, escalating complex or sophisticated phishing attempts for further analysis.

Document and report findings for each investigation, ensuring that details of phishing attacks are logged for future reference.

Assist in running phishing simulation campaigns across the organization to assess employee awareness and improve responses to phishing attacks.

Analyze results from phishing simulations, track which users fall for simulated phishing attacks, and provide feedback to improve training.

Support the development and delivery of phishing awareness training for employees, emphasizing best practices for identifying and reporting phishing emails.

Respond to user-reported suspicious emails, review submissions, and provide feedback to users on whether the email is legitimate or phishing.

Stay updated on the latest phishing techniques, threat actor tactics, and tools used in phishing attacks by monitoring phishing-related threat intelligence feeds.

Report new trends in phishing activity to senior analysts and recommend updates to email filtering rules or policies to counter emerging threats.

Assist in maintaining records of phishing incidents, investigations, and outcomes to track patterns of phishing attempts against the organization.

Prepare weekly or monthly reports on phishing trends, simulation results, and user performance in phishing tests for review by senior management.

Work closely with the SOC team to ensure phishing incidents are integrated into broader security monitoring and incident response workflows.

Collaborate with the IT team to ensure that phishing protection is updated in email systems, and any vulnerabilities in email configurations are addressed.

Assist in configuring and fine-tuning email filtering rules to block phishing emails, ensuring that tools like Proofpoint or Microsoft Defender are optimized to catch potential phishing attempts.

Work with senior analysts to review email quarantine reports and refine filters to reduce false positives while improving phishing detection rates.

Provide support to the incident response team during major phishing attacks, helping to investigate and mitigate phishing-related incidents.

Assist in identifying affected users and implementing containment measures, such as account lockouts or email quarantines, to prevent the spread of phishing attacks.
