Responsibilities
Assists in radioactive waste management operations.
Reviews quality assurance for all the radiation equipment.
Performs leak testing and inventory of all the sealed sources.
Provides training and use web-based training for all radiation workers.
Assists in clinical areas such as Y-90, Lu-177 and I-131 procedures.
Assists in licensing and amendments.
Maintains radiation monitoring equipment.
Actively participates in personnel dosimeter monitoring program.
Assists with ALARA implementations.
Audits the clinical radiation sites, including Nuclear Medicine and Nuclear Cardiology.
Assists in maintaining records in the Radiation Safety Office for regulatory reviews.
Provides support during NYCDOH, NYS, and TJC inspections, and also assist in ensuring compliance with New York City Department of Health. Such support includes monitoring radiation equipment for radiation safety compliance issues related to procedure manuals, personnel dosimetry, lead apron checks, and assisting senior staff with structural shielding design issues and shielding surveys.
May need to conduct radiation safety training for hospital staff working in or near radiation areas.
Assists the RSO in implementing quarterly RSC meetings.
Performs other duties as needed.

Required
Master's degree in health physics, medical physics, physics, mathematics, engineering, or an equivalent field (MS preferred).
New graduate or greater.
Competent in working independently and as a team member to develop and implement programs.
Ability to set priorities, meet deadlines, taking the initiative and working independently.
Excellent written, oral and interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated analytical, problem solving and organizational skills.
Advanced mathematical skills.
Knowledge of state/federal agency radioactive materials regulations.
Must be able to interface with all levels of hospital staff and possess good oral and written communication skills.
Competent in the use of computers including Microsoft Excel, Word, Power Point, Access and email internet programs.
Must be capable of working independently and as a team member to develop and implement programs.
Must possess the ability to act decisively when responding to emergencies.
Preferred
Individuals who have completed the American Board of Health Physics (ABHP) examination (Part I) will be preferred.
Certification by the ABHP, ABR or ABMP highly desirable.
