Responsibilities

Our group at the Ices, Ice Irradiation, and Organics Laboratory for Astrobiology (I3OLAB) studies the composition, evolution, and the physical and chemical properties of interstellar and planetary materials.
We focus on the evolution of astrophysical ices and their interaction with energetic radiation, particularly interested in how radiation processes lead to the formation of organic residues containing a variety of organic molecules of astrobiological interest.
We produce astrophysical ice analogs in the laboratory under conditions realistically close to those expected in various space environments and analyze resulting samples using a range of analytical techniques.
We collaborate nationally and internationally to study the organic materials produced in our experiments, interpret astronomical observations, and improve existing astrophysical and astrochemical models with experimental inputs.
