Responsibilities
Providing guidance and assistance to voting/consulting staff, allied health staff, attorneys, paraprofessionals and other parties, both internally and externally, in responding to and resolving legal matters affecting Mayo Clinic.
Managing a large and diversified workload, exercising strong decision-making capabilities, and demonstrating a high level of independent judgment.
Initiating and producing complex work with a high level of competence in one or more areas of law, offering crucial support to attorneys and clients.
Demonstrating advanced knowledge and understanding of practice areas, processes, procedures, rules and regulations.
Appearing at mediations and Administrative Court proceedings and participating in settlement negotiations, per Mayo Clinic settlement guidelines.
Providing direction, overseeing, mentoring, and training paraprofessionals and support staff.
Exhibiting sound legal project management skills, effectively leading teams, serving as a positive change agent, resolving conflict and delegating work.
Providing leadership and serving as an expert in one or more areas of law with proficiency in legal research and analysis.
Proactively serving as a leader to advance the legal practice, technology, diversity and inclusion, and quality improvement initiatives.
Educating and providing guidance to departments and individual clients on specific legal topics and taking the lead on significant cases, matters, and projects.
Leading meetings with staff, clients, and external parties, analyzing complex matters, identifying areas of risk, and providing recommendations with minimal attorney involvement.
Ensuring that Mayo’s policies, procedures and practices are in compliance with current laws and regulations.
Serving as an institutional resource with regard to Mayo policy, strategic priorities, and legal matters including participation on institutional committees and task forces.
Identifying, managing and leading initiatives, including but not limited to process improvements.

Primary focus on federal and state regulatory law, including federal and state regulatory compliance, CMS and third-party payer billing requirements, and fraud and abuse
Life science work including FDA regulated biologics, drugs and devices, pharmacy, prescribing matters and clinical research
