Responsibilities
Provide accurate translation of documents and/or transcription of audio files involving law enforcement and legal subject matter from foreign languages into English to Czech or vice versa.
Edit audio transcriptions with slang and idioms (Czech to English).
Edit legal documents, such as affidavits, depositions, etc., while demonstrating a strong command of legal terminology in both English and the target language.
Excellent written communication skills in English and the target foreign language, with Advanced Proficiency (reading/speaking/listening, writing) level 3-plus in English and the foreign target language, as assessed by the International Language Roundtable (ILR) scale.
Translate and/or transcribe following the government client’s style guides and quality standards.
Use domain-specific terminology.
Review and certify the quality of other translators’ work, as needed.
Highly proficient in MS Office, with the ability to mirror source document format in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Familiar with the use of CAT tools, such as Trados Studio.
Abide by a code of ethics when performing transcription and translation work.

Required
Holds active U.S. Public Trust or higher security clearance or willing to undergo a U.S. government background check to obtain a Public Trust Clearance Moderate Level.
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
At least 3 years’ experience in translating and/or editing between English and a foreign language.
At least 3 years’ experience performing audio transcription with the ability to use software to enhance sound and equipment to aid in transcription.
Familiar with legal terminology in both English and the target foreign language(s).
Proficient in Microsoft Office.
Translators and editors must proficiently use CAT tools, such as SDL Trados.
Preferred
Bilingual (English and Czech) with a law degree, paralegal certificate, or documented legal translation or transcription experience.
Bilingual (English and Czech) experience with editing audio transcription documents.
Active Public Trust or higher security clearance.
ATA, NAJIT or other relevant professional certification.
