Responsibilities

Participate in all SD70 locomotive model design reviews;

Identify any/all design issues impacting manufacturing;

Document and communicate manufacturing issues to design engineering;

Review and enhance design and drawings;

Match designs to manufacturing capabilities;

Integrate supplier input into designs;

Analyze total assembly costs for improved make/buy decisions;

Facilitate standardization techniques at station level subsystems;

Use re-engineering data to drive improved designs;

Simplify and standardize engineering drawing nomenclature;

Travel as required.

Required

B.S. in Engineering or Engineering Technology or equivalent training

Training in drafting and engineering drawing

Proficient in CAD, preferably UG

Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills to present information to team members, top management, customers

Strong root cause problem-solving abilities and experience addressing complex technical problems

Basic understanding of locomotive assembly and engineering design concepts

Ability to lead cross-functional teams

Knowledge of Lean manufacturing concepts

High level of mechanical and/or electrical aptitude

Well developed computer skills: Word, Excel, LN

Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings

Effective team building skills, good change manager

Ability to travel as required

Preferred

Experience in locomotive assembly and engineering design

Experience with re-engineering data (Manufacturing Change Requests, Engineering Issues, and Customer Feedback Issues)

Experience with standardization techniques at station level subsystems

Experience with Suppliers & Supplier Quality to integrate supplier input into designs

Experience in simplifying and standardizing engineering drawing nomenclature
