Responsibilities
Handle all claims and litigation related to hospital matters.
Assist legal counsel with potential claim assessments.
Coordinate procurement of responses to Discovery propounded on hospital and staff.
Review Summons & Complaint for coverage related issues and ensure notification to appropriate carriers.
Interface with legal counsel at all phases of litigation and trial preparation.
Manage, review, and analyze Event Reporting data including the closure of incident reports.
Analyze event reports for trends, high risk/high exposure, potentially compensable events for both patients and staff.
Coordinate and facilitate Serious Safety Event Classification meetings.
Assist in Root Cause Analysis process including reporting events to the Department of Health.
Assist in the Apparent Cause Analysis process.
Coordinate and facilitate Patient Safety meetings.
Review hospital incident reports and refer potential liability claims to insurance carrier.
Investigate all hospital-related risks involving actual injury to patients, visitors, employees, and property.
Resolve patient and family grievances against the hospital to avoid escalation.
Formulate and review policies to protect patients, visitors, staff, and hospital.
Represent the Risk Management Department on hospital committees.
Respond to inquiries from Federal and State governmental agencies.
Provide Risk Management educational training to Hospital staff.
Administration of tracking documentation addressing subpoenas, medical malpractice claims, and lost personal belongings.
Available 24/7 to respond to risk management related calls regarding the hospital.

Required
Minimum of a Bachelor's degree required
Strong attention to detail, analytical and organizational skills
Experience in supporting litigation discovery for outside counsel
Strong written and oral communication skills
Successful completion of all orientation programs
Preferred
Knowledge of NJ State and HIPAA privacy requirements preferred but not required
