Responsibilities

Gather and verify information through interviews, observation, and research to ensure objectivity and balance in news reporting
Monitor sources for breaking news and plan, write, edit, and voice news broadcasts
Maintain deadlines for timely news delivery and repackage content for newscasts
Produce features, interviews, and content for websites and social media platforms
Identify technical requirements for recording audio material and specialize in specific news fields
Prepare written, visual, and audio content using digital editing software
Possibly work shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays

Required

Expertise using Microsoft Office suite and social networking platforms
To be knowledgeable and up-to-date on local and national trends and/or to have specialized knowledge of subjects/events related to on-air topics
Pleasant, charismatic and well-controlled voice; excellent pronunciation
Well-rounded communication skills for conducting interviews
Excellent writing and editing skills; proficient in grammar
Proficiency in media production and broadcast systems
Ability to plan and organize, set priorities and multi-task in a fast-paced environment
3+ years’ experience in on-air journalism in smaller market or college station
4 – year college degree, preferably in Broadcast Journalism or Communications
Respect for others and a strong belief that others should do this in return
Ability to work within prescribed guidelines without needing close supervision
Problem-solving skills within established procedures
Understanding of when to seek guidance for unforeseen problems
Close attention to detail
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to act in a professional manner and collaborate with colleagues of different levels
