Responsibilities

Maintain a follow-up success rate of at least 90% for cases abstracted in a five-year timeframe, 80% for entire database.

Timely and complete abstracting review is required at the required standard, which is dependent on the annual caseload.

Maintain minimally, in accordance with the Pennsylvania Department of Health standard, a data quality level of at least 97% for data items reviewed if the facility is located in Pennsylvania.

Perform other functions and tasks required to maintain a current and accurate database and stay in compliance with the requirements of UPMC, the American College of Surgeons (ACoS), the Pennsylvania Department of Health (if facility is located in Pennsylvania), and the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health Organizations (JCAHO).

Required

1 year of oncology or abstracting experience is required for this role

High school diploma required

1 year oncology or abstracting experience or equivalent combination of education and experience

Proficient in anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, abstracting techniques, AJCC and SEER summary staging systems, ICDO, ICD-9-CM, and/or other clinical coding systems

Experience with hospital data systems, Microsoft Office software products and/or personal computers

Accurate and efficient keyboarding skills necessary to meet productivity standards
