Responsibilities
Develop, test, and implement GeoAI models to enhance the INM and 3DNTM capabilities.
Conduct research to integrate 3D topographic data into national mapping workflows.
Explore novel methods for geospatial data integration, visualization, and analysis using USGS foundational datasets.
Work collaboratively with the CEGIS Director and research scientists to identify and address priority research areas.
Coordinate with cross-disciplinary teams, including hydrology, elevation, and other specialists, to align INM and 3DNTM advancements with broader USGS initiatives.
Support stakeholder engagement by preparing presentations, technical reports, and visualizations.
Assist in designing and prototyping new workflows for integrating 3DNTM data into the Intelligent National Map.
Develop geospatial algorithms to automate and improve data quality, accuracy, and usability.
Enhance data fusion methods using elevation, hydrography, structures, and other geospatial layers.
Mentor and guide junior staff, including student contractors, to support their professional growth.
Contribute to training materials and knowledge-sharing sessions on AI and geospatial innovations.
Provide insights and recommendations to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the INM and 3DNTM projects.
Identify emerging technologies and trends to ensure USGS remains at the cutting edge of geospatial science.

Required
Ph.D. in Geospatial Science, Geography, Computer Science, Engineering, Environmental Science, or a closely related field.
Strong background in geospatial data analysis, AI/ML, and 3D modeling.
Experience with USGS datasets and tools is a plus.
Proficiency in geospatial software (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS) and programming languages (e.g., Python, R).
Familiarity with AI/ML frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch) and geospatial libraries (e.g., GDAL, GeoPandas).
Experience with cloud computing environments (e.g., AWS, Google Cloud) and big data processing.
Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving abilities.
Preferred
Experience with large-scale geospatial projects and integrating diverse datasets.
Knowledge of federal geospatial data standards and policies.
Demonstrated ability to publish in peer-reviewed journals and present at scientific conferences.
