Responsibilities

Manage and implement technical roadmaps for a portfolio of platform-focused enablement technologies and projects, including distributed cloud infrastructure, containerized workloads, databases, messaging, networking, source-control, CI/CD, security.

Work on observability systems to enable holistic platform observability and reduce incident response times.

Drive high-quality engineering products by supporting automated testing and performance testing capabilities integrated with the software development lifecycle.

Create tooling that empowers developers to focus on value-added activities and product differentiation.

Measure Developer Experience KPIs, solicit and incorporate internal user feedback, and ensure productivity tooling meets developers' needs.

Evangelize internal products and tooling for adoption within the organization.

Ensure operational excellence and incident management practices for high availability of the Fan Ecosystem platform and applications.

Build relationships with stakeholders, collaborate with leaders, and present metrics and activities.

Provide leadership and technical expertise within the engineering team, mentor engineers, and ensure adherence to engineering best practices.

Define, gather, and present KPIs and project status to key stakeholders.

Stay updated on technology and trends in engineering and cloud technologies.

Participate in recruiting activities to help grow the team.

Occasional travel to events and Fanatics offices for offsite and team meetings.

Required

10+ years of industry experience designing, building, and supporting distributed systems and large-scale cloud platforms in production with a proven track record of 24x7 reliability

5+ years of experience developing applications in a distributed systems environment (back end preferred)

Excellent communication, including influencing and problem-resolution skills

Proficiency with scripting and programming languages. Java and Python are preferred

Proficiency in GitOps practices and Infrastructure As Code systems (such as Terraform, CloudFormation, Flux CD)

Proficiency of network fundamentals (DNS, TCP/IP, routing, HTTP/S, websockets, gateways, proxies, load balancing, traffic control)

Experience building CICD systems and with multiple deployment strategies

Experience with cloud-based identity and access management (IAM), Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) and Authentication/Authorization systems

Experience with observability tooling and incident management

Demonstrated affinity for documentation-first engineering practices

Demonstrated ability to partner closely with engineering teams and implement appropriate tools and practices that balance quality with productivity

Positive and flexible attitude to work in a fast-paced environment and a willingness to embrace new initiatives

High personal initiative. A desire to seek out problems, learn quickly, and apply solutions proactively and fearlessly

Highly outcome-oriented and data-driven

In-depth root cause analysis of low-level incidents spanning multiple connected systems

Ability to integrate 3rd-party systems into a cohesive development platform

Preferred

Experience in AWS cloud-native environment is preferred

Experience with Github actions and workflows is a bonus

Experience with integrating feature experimentation with software delivery is a bonus

Experience with chaos testing is a bonus

Global experience with distributed organizations preferred
