Responsibilities

You’ll collaborate with a small team to design, define, build, and deliver new data services for Yahoo News.

We believe in learning through rapid prototyping. You’ll develop multiple early versions of new user interfaces or features, and will have to weigh the tradeoffs between quick development and future tech debt.

We work with data sources in the form of both static datasets and APIs. You will need to be able to write code to efficiently access them to power the product experience.

Code – you will spend most of your time doing front-end web development. You’ll be responsible for the technical execution of the product experience, including deciding the architecture, writing code using React, testing, refactoring, and bug fixing.

You’ll work with Yahoo’s engineering team to ensure that when we scale the products you build, they integrate seamlessly with our other systems, and any dependencies are well-managed.

Required

8+ years experience building and shipping across the web

Proficiency in React

Excellent coding chops, code design skills, and practitioner of web development best practices – including object-oriented design principles; design pattern usage; writing modular, reusable, testable code; data structures; concurrency; performance profiling and tuning

Experience around building web features that scale, experience with caching and delivery

Excellent analytical, problem solving, and debugging skills

The quintessential teammate -- great communicator, adaptable, supportive, hard working, and enjoys a good laugh

Preferred

An interest in data visualization and user interaction design is a plus
