Responsibilities

Assess current program requirements while prioritizing future flexibility and modularity in design

Identify and track issues that may affect program scope, timelines, or budgets

Identify when to utilize external vendor knowledge on particular designs/systems

Understand the project scope from internal teams and clearly communicate design requirements, feedback, and ownership to external vendors

Develop and manage detailed project CAD/Documentation; Ensuring alignment for internal documentation with anything developed by outside vendor

Building physical models to evaluate functionality, manufacturability, and robustness

Select off-the-shelf components and develop designs that are cost-effective and easy to manufacture in-house or through external vendors for supporting infrastructure and tools

Analyzing data generated from lab experiments and vendor builds to inform engineering decisions

Traveling both domestically and internationally, to piece part and assembly vendors to realize the physical design and finding root cause for failures

Required

A passion for functional design and an appreciation for detail

Strong analytical/problem solving skills

Excellent organizational and leadership skills

The ability to articulate design issues in quantitative terms both verbally and with documentation

Experience working in a collaborative environment and self-motivation to identify and drive resolution of issues across multiple projects

Ability to lead cross-functional communication between project teams and external vendors

Experience with 3D CAD modeling systems and workflow

Experience working with contract manufacturers

Experience in Design for Manufacturability (DFM), and Design for Assembly (DFA), statistical tolerance analysis techniques, functional dimensioning, and geometric tolerancing
