Responsibilities
Serve as a core connection point across JIL projects, campaigns, and initiatives, ensuring that projects are aligned, coordinated, tracked, and managed in line with the JIL strategies and priorities.
Ensure that project status is proactively and regularly communicated to JIL leadership and necessary stakeholders, and that risks or issues are appropriately elevated in a timely manner.
Influence and manage, without formal authority, staff at various levels of seniority to ensure that issues are resolved and work moves forward in line with set plans and deadlines.
Serve as project manager on JIL operational projects of various scope and size.
Lead the process to properly sequence all work to be done to achieve set goals ensuring the best optimization of resources.
Clearly disseminate accurate data related to project obstacles, milestones, interdependencies, and budgetary issues.
Drive several projects at once and be able to multitask or shift priorities, while maintaining timelines and meeting deadlines.
Develop and update internal task management trackers and calendars.
Take notes and track action items in internal and external meetings, helping to manage workflow and priorities.
Support the communications team in their efforts to implement communications strategy and planning, including by identifying opportunities for earned media, tracking media hits, creating and/or sharing social media posts, media outreach, and internal communications efforts.
Co-develop and draft newsletters to our email list highlighting JIL’s work.
Assist in the drafting, reviewing, editing, and development of program materials, as necessary.
Support marketing and communications ad hoc projects on an as-needed basis. This can include a variety of needs, including documentation proofreading and editing, website updates, social media content creation and posting, communications-related outreach.
Support outreach efforts including speaking engagements and podcast pitches to help spread the word about JIL’s work.
Act as a trusted thought-partner for JIL colleagues.
Assist with meeting scheduling, as needed.
Participate in weekly prioritization meetings.
Participate in and support scheduled conference calls with partners and collaborators, as needed.

Required
Bachelor’s degree and 2+ years of relevant experience required.
Excellent communication skills with ability to articulate ideas in a compelling manner.
Positive, solution-oriented outlook.
Discretion, maturity, and confidential management of all incidental information acquired on the job is essential.
Preferred
Background, prior experience, or prior course work in criminal law, criminal justice, and/or public policy is strongly preferred.
Experience building relationships and initiating activities across stakeholder organizations and individuals.
Comfort sharing interim work products, seeking feedback, and working collaboratively.
Curiosity and interest in public policy and public interest work, particularly in the criminal justice realm.
Experience serving as a program/project manager or portfolio manager.
Experience working closely with executive-level leadership.
Ability to learn a variety of online platforms to support JIL’s communication efforts.
Prior experience working with lawyers and/or in the criminal justice sector.
Willingness to learn new skills and software.
Have a connection to the criminal justice system and/or passion for doing work that matters.
