Responsibilities

Provide support to multiple grant-funded qualitative, mixed-methods, and ethnographic research projects within UCSF’s Institute for Health Policy Studies.
Oversee day-to-day research operations including hiring and training.
Contribute to the development of data collection instruments and interview guides.
Conduct in-depth qualitative interviews and ethnographic observations in Spanish and English.
Build partnerships and conduct community engagement work with community and scientific advisory boards.
Code and analyze qualitative data.
Contribute to manuscripts and conference presentations.
Assist in the oversight of tracking databases and support coordination needs for multidisciplinary teams.
Interact extensively with research collaborators within UCSF and other clinical and community settings.
Handle administrative responsibilities including human subject applications, progress reports, and manuscripts.

Required

Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
Minimum 3 years of related experience.
Extensive experience in the design or development or collection, management or reporting of qualitative or ethnographic research or in development or management of community- and/or clinic-based engagement and interventions.
Research experience in social science or public health, particularly on grant-funded projects.
A track record of supervision of study staff who are responsible for qualitative and ethnographic data collection.
Proficiency with qualitative data analysis software (including Atlas-ti, Dedoose, and/or Nvivo)
Depth of knowledge on maintenance of qualitative research protocols and application of theory to practice
A track record of sensitive, supportive, respectful and productive relations with community members, research participants, partnering clinic and organizational staff, and research team members.
Strong writing and verbal communication skills
Ability to use discretion and maintain confidentiality when interacting with patient participants or participating in other similarly sensitive discussions.
Ability to use sound judgment in responding to issues and concerns that arise during research activities or communications, maintaining a professional demeanor, and escalating issues when the situation calls for it.
Extensive knowledge of and experience interacting with low-income patients and community members.
Solid organizational skills.
Demonstrated knowledge and experience with computer programs commonly used in research including but not limited to: Microsoft Office (specifically Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel), Zotero or other reference managers.

Preferred

Master’s degree in a social science discipline (public health, social work, anthropology, sociology.
Ability to communicate in Spanish and English.
