Responsibilities

Analyze requirements, identify limitations and problems, and develop innovative mechanical solution concepts
Collaborate closely with team members and area leads
Participate in R&D and prototyping of proposed equipment and systems, including assembly and validation testing of mechanical systems as well as preparation of technical reports, documentation, and presentations for design reviews and management
Manage projects of varying size and scope; plan and execute technical elements, manage budget/schedule implications, and communicate with sponsors
Prepare written and/or verbal presentations on complex issues and deliver to broad audiences
Review the work of others to verify technical soundness
Mentor less experienced staff in the development of technical and project skills

Required

Bachelor’s degree or higher in a related discipline
19+ years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Proficient and comprehensive knowledge of the principles and best practices of mechanical design
Deep understanding of mechanical engineering fundamentals (e.g. statics, dynamics, stress analysis, materials, fluid mechanics, mechanism design, GD&T)
Experience with core manufacturing methods including machining, turning, forging, coatings, sheet metal, injection molding
Ability to work across multiple engineering disciplines (mechanical, hydrodynamics, thermodynamics, materials, manufacturing)
Demonstrated judgment in anticipating and solving both routine and unusual design challenges with a focus on design simplicity and reliability
Proven record of consistently delivering high quality engineering designs, drawing packages, and other engineering documentation (design and analysis calculations, requirements documents, technical specifications, statements of work, test plans)
Ability to communicate engineering problems and design concepts through presentation to engineers, designers, scientists, and other project partners
Ability to work independently on complex or strategic assignments with minimal supervision
U.S. citizenship
Successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen
