Responsibilities
Develop, maintain, and optimize server-side logic, APIs, and databases to support secure and scalable federal government applications.
Ensure compliance with federal standards, such as FISMA, FedRAMP, and NIST 800-53, throughout the back-end development lifecycle.
Collaborate with front-end developers, project/product managers, ux designers, and other stakeholders to ensure seamless integration between front-end interfaces and back-end systems.
Implement and manage secure authentication and authorization solutions, including Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) and Identity and Access Management (IAM).
Design and maintain efficient, reliable, and scalable database solutions, ensuring high availability and data integrity.
Perform routine maintenance and updates to back-end systems to address vulnerabilities, improve performance, and ensure alignment with evolving federal requirements.
Conduct thorough testing and debugging to ensure the functionality, security, and stability of back-end systems.
Prepare and maintain comprehensive documentation, including system architecture, API specifications, and operational procedures, to meet federal record-keeping standards.
Participate in technical discussions with government stakeholders to align back-end solutions with mission objectives and user needs.
Stay updated on industry trends, emerging technologies, and federal technology policies to identify opportunities for system enhancements and modernization.
Support the integration of DevSecOps practices, including automating deployments, monitoring systems, and integrating security checks in the development pipeline.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve issues and implement solutions that enhance the overall performance and reliability of government applications.

Required
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field; or equivalent work experience.
5+ years of experience in back-end development, with a focus on building secure, scalable, and high-performance systems for government or enterprise projects.
Proficiency in Ruby on Rails and other server-side programming languages such as Python, Java, Node.js, or Go.
Strong understanding of database systems, including SQL (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL) and NoSQL (e.g., MongoDB, DynamoDB), with experience in designing and optimizing database schemas.
Expertise in developing and consuming RESTful and GraphQL APIs, ensuring compatibility and scalability.
Familiarity with cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud, and related services such as Lambda, EC2, S3, and RDS.
Hands-on experience with containerization and orchestration technologies, such as Docker and Kubernetes.
Knowledge of secure coding practices, including encryption, data protection, and vulnerability remediation, in compliance with federal security standards.
Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git) and collaborative development workflows.
Strong problem-solving skills and a commitment to writing clean, maintainable, and well-documented code.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.
Familiarity with federal compliance frameworks such as FISMA, FedRAMP, and NIST 800-53.
Experience with DevSecOps tools and practices, including CI/CD pipelines, Jenkins, or GitLab CI/CD.
Preferred
Certifications such as AWS Certified Developer, Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA), or Microsoft Certified: Azure Developer Associate.
Experience with native mobile app development.
