Responsibilities
Develop and maintain responsive, user-friendly web interfaces that comply with federal accessibility standards, including Section 508 and WCAG guidelines.
Collaborate with designers, back-end developers, and other stakeholders to translate user requirements into high-quality, accessible front-end code.
Conduct accessibility audits using automated tools and manual testing techniques to identify and resolve barriers for users with disabilities.
Implement best practices for semantic HTML, CSS, React, and JavaScript to ensure web applications are accessible, performant, and cross-browser compatible.
Provide expertise in accessibility, offering guidance and recommendations to ensure digital products meet or exceed compliance requirements.
Stay updated on evolving federal accessibility standards, technologies, and industry best practices, applying them to ongoing projects.
Optimize front-end performance to ensure fast load times and smooth user experiences across all devices and platforms.
Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for front-end code, accessibility testing processes, and remediation strategies.
Conduct training and provide technical support to team members and stakeholders on accessibility and front-end development practices.
Collaborate with QA teams to ensure rigorous testing of web applications for functionality, usability, and accessibility compliance.
Advocate for user-centric and inclusive design principles throughout the development lifecycle.
Support the integration of accessibility into DevOps workflows, including continuous integration and deployment pipelines.

Required
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Web Development, Human-Computer Interaction, or a related field; or equivalent experience.
5+ years of experience in front-end web development, with a strong focus on accessibility and user-centered design principles.
Proficiency in front-end technologies, including HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, and modern frameworks/libraries such as React, Angular, or Vue.js.
Demonstrated expertise in implementing and testing for compliance with accessibility standards, including WCAG 2.1 AA and Section 508.
Familiarity with accessibility testing tools, such as Axe, WAVE, Lighthouse, or screen readers like JAWS, NVDA, or VoiceOver.
Experience working with design systems, such as the U.S. Web Design System (USWDS), or creating reusable UI components.
Strong understanding of responsive and mobile-first design principles.
Knowledge of version control systems (e.g., Git) and collaborative development workflows.
Excellent problem-solving and debugging skills, with a focus on accessibility-related issues.
Strong collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams.
Familiarity with federal digital services standards and guidelines is highly desirable.
Preferred
Certifications such as Certified Professional in Accessibility Core Competencies (CPACC) or Web Accessibility Specialist (WAS) from IAAP.
Experience with server-side rendering and headless CMS integration.
Background in performance optimization for web applications.
Knowledge of Agile development methodologies and tools, such as JIRA or Trello.
Familiarity with DevOps tools and practices, including CI/CD pipelines.
Experience creating and maintaining style guides and design documentation.
Experience with native mobile app development.
