Responsibilities

Design and implement large-scale data communications or telecommunications networks.

Plan and monitor the installation of communication circuits.

Manage and monitor local area networks (LANs) and associated equipment (e.g., bridges, routers, modem pools, and gateways).

Conduct short-term and long-term planning to meet communications requirements.

Design and implement LANs/WANs using hub switching and router technology.

Perform hardware/software analyses to provide comparative data on performance characteristics and suitability within the existing systems environment.

Prepare tradeoff studies and evaluations for vendor equipment.

Generate network monitoring/performance reports for LAN/WAN utilization studies.

Recommend network design changes/enhancements for improved system availability and performance.

Utilize network analysis/management tools and techniques.

Maintain familiarity with IT technology and manage long-distance and local carriers.
