Responsibilities

Creation of customized design projects with the R&D team for customers by having a deep working understanding of product needs as well as application and technical requirements.
Plan and execute experiments to validate system designs according to Nikon’s quality standards and utilize analytical tools to guide development strategies.
Provide on-site attention and instruction for end-users who are utilizing Nikon’s customized system products.
Perform new hardware system design, development, documentation, setup, testing and validation at Nikon’s development sites.
Seek out and establish new vendor relationships for ancillary microscope systems products, particularly those that can be customized to enhance Nikon’s microscope systems.
Interface with Nikon Product Managers to develop and market integrated systems products.
Attend seminars and meetings salient to Nikon Instruments to seek out future products, conduct market research activities, and perform competitive analysis.
Assist in the review and compliance with laws, regulations, and requirements for products sold. Includes: maintenance and update of FDA CDRH laser safety certification for all locally designed Nikon Instruments products containing lasers.
Installation, training, and/or troubleshooting of direct or contract engineering/designers’ optomechanical devices according to product development timelines.
Maintain direct communications channels with developers and OEM engineering teams associated with systems products.
Cross-functional collaboration with Nikon departments and corporate teams to ensure our optical systems are innovative and manufacturable.
Commitment to continuous learning of advancements in the optical manufacturing industry to ensure our products meet future market trends and needs.
Assist in the promotion and support of Nikon Instruments, Inc. original products for our domestic and worldwide partners.
Provide reports to the Senior Product and Research & Development Management as necessary.
Collaborate with Nikon Instruments Centers of Excellence, Imaging Centers, Nikon Bioimaging Lab, and our worldwide Nikon Instruments companies.
Prepare deliverables in the form of documents, tutorials, educational videos, courses, etc., for Nikon Instruments, Inc. customized system products as necessary.
Assist in inventory and asset management with the senior product management team.
All other duties as required or needed.

Required

Current, valid Driver license
PhD, or B.S. and equivalent work experience in Project Management or Product Development of microscope or optomechanical devices.
Microsoft applications (e.g. Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint)
Microscopy-related imaging software application (e.g., NIS-Elements, Imaris, LAS-X, Zen)
Ability to drive, utilize public transportation, travel by air, including overnight hotel stays, up to ~50%
Ability to routinely travel to customers, vendor partners, company events and trade shows/conferences.
Ability to analyze data and information.
Ability to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
Ability to communicate information verbally and in writing so that others will understand.
Ability to work outside of regularly scheduled work hours as needed.
Ability to develop constructive and cooperative working relationships with others in a team-selling environment and maintain them over time.

Preferred

Work experience in microscope lab automation, optical design, or mechanical design is a plus.
Networking and programming experience or knowledge a plus (e.g., Python, C++).
