Responsibilities

Develop and maintain complex software components/systems in compliance with department standards
Implement approved system architecture and provide feedback during discussions/reviews
Unit test all software changes and automate wherever possible
Conduct code reviews and refactor code for clarity, maintainability, and performance
Transform user stories into efficient designs addressing scalability, security, and maintainability
Develop technical design documentation and participate in design discussions
Support Agile processes, promote software development velocity improvements, and lead research on new tools/technologies
Support QA test efforts, act as a Technical Subject Matter Expert, and provide IT team support
Collaborate with Agile team members, mentor junior team members, and ensure quality and timeliness of deliverables

Required

Bachelor’s Degree within a technical discipline, or the equivalent years of related work experience
7+ years of software development experience
Certifications a plus
Insurance industry experience / knowledge a plus
Hands on development experience with Java and JEE standards including Servlets, JSP, JSTL, EJB, JMS, JAX-RS, JAX-WS
Strong knowledge of Spring Framework, including Spring Data/Repositories
Strong working knowledge and experience with RESTful services and Resource Oriented Architectures
Knowledge of JSON, XML (including DTD and XSD), JAXB, DOM and SAX
Experience with JPA/Hibernate
Design patterns / Software modeling
Object-oriented design and programming
Highly scalable and available system design
Experience with Frontend JavaScript frameworks such as jQuery or AngularJS
Git
JBoss or other JEE application server
Internet standards such as HTTP, XML, SOAP, SMTP, Web Services
Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server
General network knowledge
Data modeling and database design
System security for internet, intranet, and extranet
Application deployment for internet, intranet, and extranet
SQL / query including adequate performance
JPQL/HQL or other object-oriented query language
Strong working knowledge of transactions
Operating Systems including Microsoft Windows and Linux
