Responsibilities
Provide Technical Writer support for DTRA documents.
Support the Issuances Program Manager (PM) in reviewing, formatting, and editing DTRA documents as needed.
Take notes during meetings and create an official record of key issues, briefings, discussions, and decisions when applicable.
Coordinate with the Issuances PM.
Provide Technical Writer support for agency issuances.
Coordinate with the Issuances PM and DTRA SMEs.
Conduct research, create draft versions of documents for review, accomplish adjudicative actions and recommended changes, verify accuracy and completeness, assist with the coordination processes, and provide a final draft document for the approval process.
Take notes during meetings and create an official record of key issues, briefings, discussions, and decisions when applicable.
Follow the issuance process, as stipulated in DTRA Instruction 5025.2, 'DTRA Issuance Program.'
Provide Technical Writer support for correspondence.
Support the Correspondence PM in reviewing, formatting, and editing correspondence as needed.
Using Microsoft Word processing software, present alternate versions of edited documents for discussion with authors and explain the basis for recommended editorial changes.
Edit documents for proper format, grammatical construction, punctuation, capitalization, spelling, compounding of words, use of italics or other textual conventions, abbreviations, numbers, symbols, accurate use of command or organizational titles, and correct military terminology.
Participate in the development and revision of editorial standards for DTRA personnel as necessary.
Review background materials associated with draft documents in order to acquire information about the given subject.
Research other sources to help to obtain additional information and resolve conflicting information as necessary.
Identify the intended purpose of documents and determine the appropriate style, manner of presentation, organization and structure, and relevant DTRA and DoD directives and instructions.
Take notes during meetings and create an official record of key issues, briefings, discussions and decisions when applicable.

Required
Bachelor of the Arts degree in English, Communications, or a similar field of study.
DoD Secret or higher security clearance.
Four years of experience as a Technical Writer, Communications Specialist, or similar vocation.
Ability to travel to Fort Belvoir, VA, upon short notice (will have at least 24 hours’ advance notice).
Knowledge of unique terminology used in U.S. government, DoD, and DTRA policy documents.
Proficient in Adobe Acrobat and Microsoft Office, including Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Visio, and Microsoft PowerPoint.
Preferred
Master’s degree in English, Communications, or a similar field of study.
Five or more years of experience as a Technical Writer, Communications Specialist, or similar vocation directly or indirectly supporting the federal government.
