Responsibilities
Develop and implement large-scale database architectures for relational, NoSQL, or hybrid environments.
Ensure scalability, performance, and reliability using advanced techniques such as partitioning, sharding, and replication.
Optimize database performance through indexing, query optimization, and caching mechanisms.
Implement robust security measures, including encryption (data at rest and in transit), role-based access controls (RBAC), and secure backup solutions.
Design and manage database systems compliant with federal standards such as FISMA, FedRAMP, and NIST 800-53.
Address challenges such as handling sensitive data, achieving Authority to Operate (ATO), and ensuring audit readiness.
Utilize tools like AWS GovCloud, Azure Government, or DHS-specific systems for secure, compliant database management.
Deliver traceable, secure database solutions with logging mechanisms that meet federal requirements.
Lead cross-functional teams in resolving complex technical challenges, such as data bottlenecks, migrating legacy systems, and managing downtime.
Conduct root cause analysis to identify and resolve performance issues.
Mentor junior staff, fostering a culture of innovation and technical excellence.
Drive impactful outcomes such as reduced query execution times, enhanced system reliability, and improved user satisfaction.
Work closely with federal stakeholders to understand requirements and translate them into actionable database solutions.
Document database designs, optimizations, and compliance measures for internal and external audit purposes.
Provide thought leadership and stay updated on emerging technologies and best practices relevant to federal database architecture.

Required
Minimum of 8 years in database architecture, with at least 3 years in federal or DHS-specific projects.
Proficiency in relational (PostgreSQL, MySQL) and NoSQL (MongoDB, Cassandra) databases.
Familiarity with tools like Redis, Memcached, and cloud platforms (AWS GovCloud, Azure Government).
Strong understanding of FISMA, FedRAMP, NIST 800-53, and DISA STIGs.
Proven experience in mentoring teams, driving technical strategies, and delivering high-stakes projects.
Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
This position requires an ACTIVE DHS PUBLIC TRUST CLEARANCE. Applications lacking this clearance level will NOT be considered.
Preferred
AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Microsoft Azure Solutions Architect, or equivalent.
