Responsibilities

Assist in scoping drilling costs and development plans for future Vital operated wells according to the drilling schedule as well as potential bolt-on acreage, acquisitions, and new targets.
Ensure organized and relevant drilling data is maintained from all Vital’s operated and non-operated wells
Review and add to database of offset operator drilling productivity (ft/day) and approach
Analyze by area, operator, formation, well design, etc.
Understand drivers for productivity
Anticipate challenges based on area, formation, well design, etc.
Develop initial best practices/lesson learned documentation and plan to assure execution of project proposal
Clear documentation for visibility and accountability to the drilling team
Provide and update drilling budget cost estimates on a monthly or as needed basis
Assist with strategical long lead time procurement items such as casing, wellheads, fit-for-purpose drilling rig requirements.
Develop planning documentation: Create initial planning documents and presentations, validate folder structures are in place and all preliminary information is well-organized.
Update offset wells database with refined radius around planned wells
Generate simplified days vs depth curves highlighting potential unique project considerations
Coordinate pad scoping meeting:
Collect and organize preliminary data for surface hole location and pad design, ensuring alignment with project requirements.
Collaboration with all disciplines required
Generate high-level preliminary directional plans and wellbore models for early-stage planning
Refine cost estimates in alignment with budget numbers
Coordinate with Operations Engineer and supply chain management team request for proposals and vendor selection.
Assist in notifying vendors of upcoming projects and requirements.
Lead role in generating standard operating procedure development by area and continuous updates.
Validate casing design through stress check.
Compile all necessary documents for review including preliminary plats, directional plans, and risk assessments.
Provide preliminary AFE detailed with justification and budget comparison.
Ensure Drilling Manager approval.
Coordinate with Operations Engineer to finalize well design and compliance documentation.
Lead efforts to validate final plats, permits, and other required planning documents are clear to drill.
Assist the Operations Engineer by reviewing well specific procedures and ensuring project objectives are clear and a detailed plan is executable for field support staff.
Finalize AFE and submit through Vital’s workflow.
Assist with coordination of pre-spud and ensure objectives, hazards, and goals align with pre-planning documentation.
Provide engineering support when required to the Operation Engineer.
Ensure after-action reviews and key lessons learned are cycled back through the planning process for enhancement of standard operating procedures.
Assist with cost control.
Ensure field estimates and actuals are incorporated into budget process.
Interface with the Vital Energy EHS department to ensure project plans align with of all Vital Energy EHS policies.
Act in a safe manner and avoid unnecessary risks to Vital Energy employes and subcontractors.
Assist with enhancing Vital Energy EHS Emergency Response Plan and the Well Control Plans.

Required

BS or MS Degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited college or university.
10+ years of petroleum industry experience.
Extensive experience in planning and drilling engineering.
Proficient computer skills, especially in Excel.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills and be able to effectively work in a multi-disciplinary team environment.
Effective interpersonal skills and a high degree of emotional intelligence.
Self-motivated with a high level of personal responsibility and accountability for their work.
Uses experience and interest in financial, production and operational data analysis to drive value.
Detail-oriented/relentless, willing to find cracks in the system to expose problems.

Preferred

Proficiency in Spotfire, PowerBI or other visualizations.
