Responsibilities

Collaborate with engineering and non-engineering teams across the company to better understand users and technology needs

Lead engineering projects from scoping to implementation to maintenance

Research, propose, and design backend services and APIs based on customer and internal system needs

Implement backend services and APIs (Node/TypeScript, GraphQL/REST/gRPC, AWS)

Perform data modeling and data management (PostgreSQL, Protobuf, AWS)

Monitor, measure, and improve system quality using a data-driven approach

Utilize and contribute to software engineering best practices (Git, CI/CD, observability, test automation, etc.)

Author and contribute to technical documents, such as design documents or system documentation

Mentor and guide the technical development of other engineers

Required

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field

8+ years of experience developing data-intensive backend APIs and service at scale

3+ years of experience leading cross-functional engineering projects

Proven track record of customer-centric technical leadership and delivering customer value

Solid engineering and coding skills (preferably Node/TypeScript or another strongly-typed language)

Production experience with cloud platforms (GCP, AWS) and cloud native architecture

Production experience with container technologies (Docker, Kubernetes, etc.)

Production experience with distributed systems, data stores, data modeling, indexing and associated trade-offs

Production experience with software testing and automation

Preferred

3+ years of experience developing backend services with TypeScript

Experience with TypeScript build tools beyond configuration (tsc and alternative compilers, bundlers, etc.)

Experience with performance analysis of JavaScript applications

Experience working in close collaboration with frontend engineers and product managers

Experience with Bazel (especially TS/JS rules)

You adore strict mode and despise the any type
