Responsibilities

Operate, adjust, and maintain power plant and auxiliary equipment.

Monitor building functions and troubleshoot equipment/system problems.

Respond to calls related to building temperature, humidity, or service.

Perform routine maintenance on HVAC equipment and utility equipment.

Respond to emergency situations such as fire, floods, or loss of utility.

Assist with campus snow removal.

Adhere to all hospital standards, policies, and procedures.

Required

High School Diploma or GED

Knowledge of Advanced Steam Plant Operations and Blueprint Reading normally obtained through the completion of a Trade School program

Additional knowledge in two of the following areas: HVAC systems, water chemistry, pumps, refrigeration, electricity, and boiler combustion

Minimum of 2 yrs. experience performing the duties of a Stationary Engineer

Stationary Engineer’s License (Chicago or Elgin) within 6 months of start date into position

A valid driver’s license is required if the incumbent is selected to perform related duties at an offsite location

Knowledge of and/or experience in the correct use of body mechanics

Proficiency using a computer based building automation control system

The ability to use a computer for the storage and retrieval of data and remote sensing and control of building systems

The ability to access and interpret blueprints and technical manuals on equipment operation, disassembly, and part identification

The skills and ability to perform mechanical maintenance

The analytical skills necessary to assess problems and determine appropriate corrective action

The written and verbal communications skills necessary to communicate effectively with emergency personnel and to record operating and maintenance data
