Responsibilities
Develop and implement a comprehensive communications strategy aligned with FAST’s mission and goals, including research initiatives, advocacy and fundraising objectives.
Serve as a trusted advisor to the executive leadership team, providing strategic counsel on media relations, messaging, and brand positioning.
Hire and manage a technical content creator
Foster a culture of collaboration, creativity, and excellence across the organization.
Expert in website optimization and ability to execute UX/SEO Audit recommendations.
Create and implement a social media strategy for multiple CTA’s both planned and breaking content.
Develop a point of view on increasing social media engagement and visibility (organic/paid).
Plan for engagement conversion outside of social media platforms.
Create compelling content that communicates FAST’s impact and advances our mission, including impact reports, blog posts, newsletters, social media, press releases, graphics, reels, and web content.
Develop key messaging frameworks to ensure consistent, powerful communication across all platforms and audiences.
Manage external vendors, agencies, and freelancers to support content development, as needed.
Build and maintain relationships with key media outlets, journalists, and influencers to secure high-impact coverage in print, broadcast, and online media.
Work with executive team to ensure they are prepared to serve as spokespeople, representing FAST at conferences, speaking engagements, and events.
Develop crisis communication plans and respond to media inquiries, ensuring accurate and timely information.
Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to create campaigns that educate and engage the AS community, researchers, policymakers, and donors.
Collaborate on advocacy communications efforts, working with government relations and policy teams to drive policy initiatives and increase public awareness.
Collaborate across to organization to establish external partnerships that will amplify FAST’s impact.
Drive a digital strategy to maximize reach and engagement across social media platforms, email marketing, and the website.
Monitor, analyze, and report on the effectiveness of communication strategies, using data and feedback to optimize efforts and inform decision-making.

Required
Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, journalism, or a related field.
7+ years of experience in communications, public relations, or marketing, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
Proven experience in nonprofit, healthcare/research, or advocacy organizations, ideally focused on rare disease or healthcare communications.
Demonstrated expertise in media relations, brand management, and content strategy.
Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills, with an ability to translate complex scientific or medical topics into compelling narratives.
Experience developing and managing strategic communications plans across multiple platforms.
Strong understanding of social media, digital marketing, and analytics.
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment and adapt to shifting priorities.
Passion for advancing research and improving lives in the rare disease community.
