Responsibilities

Advising and assist with event planning for multiple categories of CSI’s 650+ student organizations who plan 4,000+ on-campus events annually.
Advise additional categories of registered student organizations as needed through drop-in advising and programs.
Advise and coach student leaders on the development and implementation of programs, applicable policies and procedures, risk management, issues management, goal setting, leadership development and organization management.
Reviews, interprets and advises student organizations on university policies and procedures as they relate to campus activities.
Coordinates, manages, assesses, and supports campus-wide events and programs that promote involvement in student organizations and campus life, as needed.
Programs include student organization fairs, community mentor training and events, Triton Weeks of Welcome events, annual CSI student awards, and more.
Performs the full range of duties and responsibilities within a Student Life specialization.
Assesses situations and determines appropriate action or referral.
Works independently under general supervision to provide information and interpretation of complex policies, procedures and regulations.
Identifies and responds to student needs for programs, services, and crisis intervention.

Required

Bachelor's degree in related area and typically a minimum of three (3) years of related professional experience in higher education/student affairs, and/or equivalent experience / training.
Thorough knowledge of Student Affairs / Student Life specialization. Experience translating theory to practice in the delivery of advising and co-curricular programs. Understanding of national trends and best practices in student development and engagement.
Thorough knowledge of advising and counseling techniques. Demonstrated ability to advise and counsel college students on all aspects of program planning and assessment, budget implementation, goal setting, conflict resolution, problem solving, and leadership and organizational development. Ability to assess and mediate individual and group conflicts.
Demonstrated experience planning, organizing, implementing, and assessing creative, successful, well attended programs and events that meet the needs of a diverse student population. Experience establishing collaborative partnerships with students, staff, faculty, and campus departments. Ability to develop and manage budgets.
Skills in judgment and decision-making, problem solving, identifying measures of system performance and the actions to improve performance. Ability to develop and implement short and long-term goals.
Demonstrated ability to interpret and provide advice and training to student organizations on University regulations and procedures pertaining to facility use, risk management, security, ticket handling, alcohol use, free speech, fundraising, posting, food service, money collection, Americans with Disabilities Act and other programming related policies.
Ability to develop original ideas to solve problems. Ability to work effectively individually and as part of a team, and to remain flexible in a strong service and results oriented environment while providing imagination and creative solutions.
Abilities in project management, problem identification and reasoning skills. Demonstrated strong organizational, planning, and time management skills. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize in a fluid environment with shifting priorities while meeting deadlines. Ability to take initiative and follow through tasks to completion with minimal supervision.
Demonstrated interpersonal communication skills to interact effectively and diplomatically with diverse student and community populations. Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion in higher education.
Strong knowledge of common University-specific computer application programs and knowledge of University and departmental principles and procedures involved in risk assessment and evaluating risks as to likelihood and consequences. Ability to develop, interpret, and apply university policies and procedures, in consultation with higher level professionals and/or management.
