Responsibilities

Be responsible for promoting and enforcing the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations, Hazardous Materials Regulations, and other applicable regulations thereby contributing to a reduction in injury, loss of life, and property damage involving interstate or foreign motor carriers/shippers.

Be responsible for planning, supervising, and assisting with audits, compliance reviews and investigations of motor carrier operations within the U.S.

Serve as a chief spokesperson and representative in motor carrier safety and related highway safety matters for the FMCSA in Arizona and is responsible for all agency compliance and enforcement activities in that area.

Provide program direction and oversight of activities conducted by a staff of Motor Carrier Safety Specialists and a HAZMAT program specialist.

Prepare written reports and analysis of audit, review, and enforcement activity.

Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with Federal, State, and local officials involved in motor carrier programs, highway safety programs and hazardous materials transportation.

Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered for the Selective Service.

This position involves travel. A government contractor-issued travel card will be issued and must be retained for official business only.

Tentatively selected candidates are required to undergo urinalysis in accordance with DOT 3910.1D entitled 'Drug and Alcohol-Free Departmental Workplace', which includes testing for marijuana.

If selected for the position you will be required to submit to a pre-employment/pre-appointment drug test, you will also be subject to Random Drug Testing.

You must complete a one-year supervisory probationary period (unless already completed).

Federal applicants must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade in the competitive or excepted service in the executive branch to satisfy time-in-grade restrictions contained in 5 CFR 300, Subpart F.

To qualify for the Grade 13, you must have at least one year of experience equal or equivalent to the GS-12.

Experience applying laws, regulations, precedent decisions, interpretations, and critical issues related to motor carrier safety and the Federal compliance enforcement program, including those concerned with hazardous materials.

Experience planning, managing and evaluating Federal Motor Carrier Safety programs.

Experience interpreting and analyzing motor carrier laws and regulations.
