Tax Analyst Principal I

Responsibilities
Keep track of sources where VAT compliance changes are announced and maintain links to the right tax office websites.
Monitor these VAT changes in the respective VAT legislations on a continuous basis, as well as obtain information from the respective Tax Authorities.
Identify, understand, document, and communicate relevant changes in the VAT law or regulations that could have an impact on VVC, to the team, on a continuous basis.
Perform maintenance of VVC by translating the VAT compliance changes – including, but not limited to updates of VAT rates, rules, forms, e-file schema - to technical input for VVC, and document the changes made.
Research on new returns/countries to implement.
Content design creation, implementation and review of new returns/countries.
Populate databases to support various types of testing’s.
Perform quality assurance tasks following documented processes.
Support customer service by answering questions / solving issues pertaining to VAT rates, rules, returns, enhancements, or bugs, via a ticketing system.
Support our dynamic environment, using agile methodologies, collaborating with other departments, contributing time, effort, and ideas.
Enhance job knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks, participating in professional societies, and developing and/or maintaining proficiency in the latest personal productivity tools is a plus (ex. Alteryx, Power BI, etc.).
Ability to stage complex tax content within Vertex products in a logical manner that is consistent with system architecture and platforms.
Represent Vertex as a subject matter expert at product demonstrations, presentations, seminars, panels, and webcasts if needed.
Setting deadlines, defining scope of projects, assist in the review of work completed by the team, raise awareness of roadblocks, and accountable for the teams deliverables. (ex. Functioning as a Product Owner).
Look for opportunities to improve work processes and activities by using business technology and other resources.
Lead complex projects and participate as a team member on projects.
Develop, direct, and be accountable for plans for improving team performance.
Review, analyze, gather, and interpret tax laws, regulations, ordinances, case law, and literature.
Create and/or review requirements and specifications.
Provide guidance to those that they lead on the creation and execution of their work assignments.
Contribute to the development of requirements and needs of the Tax Research organization as it relates to tax content, solutions, and functionality.
Occasional travel may be required.

Required
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Taxation, Finance, data science, or similar degree required.
8+ years in a multi-jurisdictional environment with emphasis on Indirect Tax
Strong communication skills, (oral, written, presentation and facilitation).
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications is required.
Ability to prioritize and multi-task projects with individuals from various areas of the company.
Ability to work with minimal direct supervision. Wide latitude for decision making.
Ability to interpret tax laws and regulations and determine how they apply to Vertex products.
Ability to listen and understand information and communicate the same.
Knowledge and understanding of content development and testing processes.
Experience with software testing processes and tools.
Demonstrated ability to lead projects.
Ability to teach, develop, and train staff.
Capability in project management, and estimation skills.
Ability to utilize time management and effectively communicating competing priorities.
Recognize others’ contributions and share credit for success.
Preferred
Obtained or actively pursuing one or more of the following: Juris Doctorate (J.D.), masters in taxation, MBA, CMI, or CPA certification (active or inactive) preferred.
Expertise and knowledge in Latin America or Asia Pacific region’s Indirect Taxes and Reporting is an advantage.
Experience with Vertex or other tax engines a plus.
Certifications from recognized institutions that provide certifications, e.g. Certified Public Accountant/Charter Accountant, Project Management.
Industry or consulting (LATAM or APAC regions) experience required.
