Responsibilities
Lead the analysis, design, and execution of mainframe modernization projects, focusing on migrating legacy systems to cloud platforms or microservices architectures.
Collaborate with business stakeholders to understand the needs of legacy systems and design strategic approaches for modernization that align with organizational goals and technology strategies.
Build and communicate strategic recommendations for mainframe modernization, helping leadership make informed decisions on the best approaches to migration, refactoring, and system integration.
Identify opportunities to leverage new technologies (e.g., cloud computing, automation, AI) to improve the functionality, efficiency, and scalability of mainframe applications.
Assess and recommend the most suitable modernization approaches, including refactoring, re-platforming, or re-hosting mainframe applications based on business needs and technical considerations.
Provide leadership in guiding cross-functional teams to ensure successful migration and integration of mainframe systems into modern cloud or hybrid environments, minimizing disruption to business operations.
Develop and maintain project roadmaps for modernization, managing resource allocation, timelines, and budgets to ensure successful and timely project execution.
Mentor and support teams on best practices for mainframe-to-cloud migration, application refactoring, and system integration.
Provide thought leadership in mainframe modernization, presenting strategic insights and recommendations to senior leadership and clients on technology adoption, migration strategies, and industry trends.
Continuously evaluate emerging technologies and industry trends to refine and adapt modernization strategies, ensuring they remain aligned with business objectives and the latest advancements in cloud and IT architecture.

Required
Over 10 years of experience working with mainframe systems (e.g., IBM z/OS, CICS, DB2, COBOL) and leading modernization projects.
Proven expertise in mainframe migration and modernization strategies, including re-hosting, re-platforming, refactoring, and cloud migration.
Ability to build and communicate strategic modernization roadmaps for migrating legacy systems to modern platforms, aligning technical solutions with business goals.
Deep understanding of cloud computing, containerization, microservices, and other modern IT architectures, with experience integrating legacy systems into these environments.
Strong experience with DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and automation in the context of mainframe modernization.
Proficiency in mainframe programming languages such as COBOL, PL/I, or Assembler, and experience with newer languages and technologies used in modernization efforts.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess complex mainframe systems and identify the most effective modernization approach.
Ability to lead and mentor cross-functional teams, ensuring alignment with business objectives and successful project execution.
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex mainframe technologies and modernization strategies to non-technical stakeholders.
Preferred
Experience working with a globally distributed team and managing off-shore teams.
Master’s degree in Computer Science or related field.
Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud, and familiarity with cloud-native tools and services for application modernization.
Hands-on experience with mainframe modernization tools.
Familiarity with data migration strategies and tools for transitioning mainframe databases to modern cloud databases or data lakes.
