Responsibilities
Support in preparation of work plans for major repairs, modifications, annual refits, and drydocking’s of Company ships.
As necessary, inspect machinery, equipment, or spaces outlined in work requests; draw up job specifications; and obtain bids from contractors or shipyards to perform repairs.
Maintain contact with contractors to ensure completion of work according to contract terms.
Update plans procedures as directed.
Liaise with vendors and regulatory agencies to ensure that requirements for alterations, repair, or modifications are kept at minimum cost consistent with safety.
Review and advise on qualifications of technical staff and/or applicants as requested.
Maintain proficient knowledge of Company SMS; assist Safety Manager to ensure safe working practices are followed on Company ships.
Serve on each Company ship as required to fill vacancies in the Engineering Officer roster, up to and including Chief Engineer, between 3 - 6 months per year as per STCW CoC level.
Other duties as assigned.

Required
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, contractors, suppliers, and the general public.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Ability to travel nationally and internationally.
Valid Certificate of Competency in accordance with STCW 111/1 or 111/2 required.

Bachelor's degree (B.Sc.) from four-year College or University; or four years related industry experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Successful completion of Mercy Ships Entry Training will be required within the first year.
Preferred
Use of Autocad preferred but not essential.
