Responsibilities
Provide transmission line design and engineering consulting services to major power and energy utility clients, independent power producers, and energy project developers.
Design electrical transmission facilities including line layout, foundations, structure configuration, structures, insulation, and conductor specification.
Prepare project specifications for material and equipment purchase and installation.
Deliver accurate and thorough substations and control houses designs meeting industry standards and specifications.
Review internal and external designs for code compliance, good design practice, and constructability.
Resolve site queries, attend site meetings, and perform site inspections during the construction phase of projects.
Maintain complete project documentation with respect to substation design and construction.
Coordinate design activities with multi-disciplined project team members.
Maintain good working relationships with internal groups, material suppliers, contractors, and others involved in projects.
Collect, compile, and analyze data relating to substation components, equipment specifications, design work standards, and regulations.
Participate in incorporating future-ready techniques and various design requirements.
Support senior engineers with research and recommendations on design requirements and field equipment applications.
Verify site characteristics and provide technical assistance on engineering, design, testing, maintenance, and construction procedures.
Develop electrical calculations for loads, equipment sizing, feeder sizing, grounding, lighting circuits, and power distribution.
Prepare data and visualizations for the interpretation or presentation of data, findings, or analyses.
Maintain quality control standards for accurate measurements, statistical analysis, and reporting.
Contribute to the preparation of technical reports and presentations.
Conduct engineering studies and surveys to gain further information on design and construction problems.
Work collaboratively with other engineers and disciplines on infrastructure improvement projects.
Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct.

Required
A degree in Civil or Electrical Engineering from a recognized institution.
3-5 years of relevant post education experience in an electrical engineering capacity designing transmission lines in utility or industrial/commercial environments.
Relevant experience in transmission line design and a working knowledge of PLSCadd.
Engineer in Training Certification or eligible for PE licensing.
Exposure to operations and project controls experience for purposes of reporting.
Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
Candidate must undergo pre-employment drug screening.
Knowledge of electrical engineering principles, practices, process, design/build, and the application to permitting and project work-related issues.
Experience with infrastructure planning, design, and construction management, including rehabilitation and new design.
Ability to coordinate with agency regulators and understand requirements.
Knowledge of relevant engineering and electrical construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements- IEEE and ANSI.
Capable interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience. Effective self-leadership with attention to detail, results orientation, and managing multiple priorities in a dynamic work environment.
Ability to learn new techniques, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, follow instruction, work independently, and comply with company policies.
Moderate proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, technology, math principles, predictive models, spreadsheets, and tools.
Proficiency with technical writing, office automation, discipline-specific design software (i.e., MicroStation, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, ArcGIS, InRoads, Geopak, GeoSlope, ANSYS, STADD, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS), technology, math principles, predictive models, spreadsheets, and tools.
Critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to apply technical knowledge to reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, statistical analysis and arriving at the most effective, economical, and logical solution.
Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
