Responsibilities
Lead and refine an insights strategy for FHN, including a portfolio of research projects, that help build awareness and understanding of financial health and enable financial services providers, fintechs, employers, and policy makers to take action.
Oversee the successful execution and quality delivery of all research.
Partner with colleagues across FHN to “connect dots” on specific topics or themes, plan for developing coherent insights on those topics, and for engaging appropriate audiences.
Provide thought leadership and subject matter expertise related to our research agenda and its policy implications.
Partner with MarCom and other colleagues to develop a narrative for our insights work, including research assets, that advances FHN’s strategy and theory of change.
Develop new relationships and deepen existing relationships with funders, clients, regulators, and FHN members.
Lead business development and grant fundraising to ensure successful revenue generation for research efforts, in partnership with Development colleagues, peer VPs, and Leadership Team members.
Serve as an Executive Sponsor for key client relationships.
Manage a team of researchers, external consultants, and advisory councils.
Coach team members on the necessary skills and professional development, including research and analytical skills, communications, and business development.
Develop and manage the team’s annual goals, aligned with the organizational strategy, budget, and business development targets.

Required
15+ years of combined professional experience in conducting direct research (5-7 years) and leading research teams in applied and mixed method research, including quantitative and qualitative research, survey methodology, and analysis.
Experience conducting and leading research in the areas of consumer finance, financial health, or financial inclusion. Demonstrated ability to translate research findings into actionable insights.
Experience in embedding diversity, equity, and inclusion into both internal processes and external research, including conducting research on the needs of marginalized populations and experience with equitable research practices.
Strong relationship building skills with a diversity of stakeholder types, leading to new business, partnerships, and grant opportunities.
Experience leading teams, including setting strategic direction, mentoring researchers, and overseeing large-scale research initiatives.
Advanced executive presentation skills; an ability to communicate verbally and in writing to influence and motivate multiple audiences. Experience with media is a plus.
Comfortable leading change; making strategic decisions with imperfect or incomplete information; ability to pull up from immediate team responsibilities and collaborate with colleagues across the organization.
Preferred
PhD a bonus.
