Responsibilities

Lead all accounting functions including accounts payable, accounts receivable, banking, payroll, and general ledger management.
Develop and maintain internal controls including policies, procedures and systems to ensure safety of income, accurate reporting of transactions, timely payment of accounts, safeguarding of assets, and compliance with audit and legal requirements.
Manage the overall month-end close process ensuring an accurate and timely close.
Ensure compliance with US GAAP, First Place accounting policies and procedures, and all applicable government contract rules.
Ensure cost allocations are up to date and accurate to ensure correct billing for government contracts and private revenue grants.
Ensure all balance sheet accounts are reconciled on a monthly basis and all balances are current and valid.
Produce financial reports for the Executive Team and Finance Committee to effectively monitor the organization’s financial health.
Produce insightful and user-friendly financial reports for budget managers to allow them to effectively manage their department or project budget.
Lead the annual fiscal audit. Act as the organization’s key point of contact for the audit and preparation of the audited financial statements.
In partnership with the external auditors oversee the preparation of the organization’s annual tax returns. Ensure accurate and timely filings.
Lead the 401k Plan annual audit.
Oversee all government agency audits. Ensure all audit requests are dealt with efficiently and within the specified timelines. Develop and monitor action plans to address any audit findings.
Manage the organization’s cashflow including maintenance of short-term cash, investment of operational reserves, and compliance with the organization’s line of credit reporting requirements.
Oversee the organization’s payroll function. Ensure payroll is processed accurately in compliance with all First-Place policies as well as applicable state and city regulations.
Develop budgets for ongoing or new funding sources including government contract RFPs and private money grant applications. Partner with the Contracts & Compliance and Development teams to strategize on funding requests.
Partner with the CFO to lead the annual budget and mid-year forecast processes.
Working collaboratively across the organization, provide financial analysis to support ad-hoc business decisions and new investment opportunities.
Lead the Finance team in identifying process improvements and automation opportunities to support the organization’s future growth. Develop processes that are both documented and scalable. Ensure Finance team members are appropriately cross-trained.
Hire, train, and manage Finance team members. Lead team in setting annual goals and maintaining accountability for those goals.
Provide ongoing coaching to and opportunities for all Finance team members to support professional development and career growth.

Required

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
Current CPA strongly Preferred
8+ years of supervisory experience in a finance role with both accounting and FP&A responsibilities. Experience working in a nonprofit organization and knowledge of government contracts highly desirable.
