Responsibilities
Develop and lead the strategic vision for the Obesity Association, in alignment with the mission of the American Diabetes Association
Identify emerging trends, challenges, and opportunities in obesity prevention, treatment, complications management and policy advocacy, creating initiatives that drive impactful outcomes for people with obesity
Oversee organizational growth and long-term sustainability of the Obesity Association
Lead the strategic planning process to establish long-term goals and prioritize initiatives that address key challenges and opportunities in obesity prevention, treatment, and advocacy
Work closely with ADA departments, including but not limited to: research, advocacy, medical affairs, professional education/engagement, health equity, marketing and development to ensure an integrated approach toward obesity-related programs and initiatives
Partner with Research to guide the development of innovative research and programs that contribute to evidence-based solutions for obesity management and prevention
Partner with Advocacy and Health Equity to advocate for policies that address the socio-economic, environmental, and healthcare barriers to reducing obesity rates
Lead the day-to-day operations of the Obesity Association, including managing teams, budgets, and performance metrics
Establish and drive key performance indicators for all programs ensuring alignment with strategic goals and measurable success
Ensure compliance with all regulatory, legal, and industry standards
Optimize operational workflows and resource allocation to enhance productivity, program delivery, and impact
Collaborate with senior leadership to continuously improve processes, drive innovation, and adapt to evolving industry trends and challenges
Foster a culture of accountability and operational excellence by regularly reviewing performance metrics and implementing corrective actions as needed
As the obesity association division grows: Build, lead and mentor a high-performing team that is dedicated to executing the strategic goals of the Obesity Association, fostering collaboration, innovation, and accountability
Serve as the public face of the Obesity Association, representing the organization at high level national and international conferences, in media appearances, and in public forums
Build and maintain strong relationships with policy makers, funders, and corporate partners to further the mission of the Obesity Association
Collaborate with advocacy groups, public health organizations, and industry leaders to align efforts on addressing obesity-related challenges, promoting shared goals, and enhancing public health outcomes
Cultivate strategic partnerships and sponsorship opportunities to drive funding and resource development for core programs and advocacy efforts
Identify and develop new business opportunities and partnerships that drive revenue growth and expand the reach of the Obesity Association’s initiatives, with a goal of $15M in the first year
Collaborate with corporate partners, funders, and stakeholders to secure funding and resources that support program expansion and innovative obesity-related solutions

Required
An advanced degree in a healthcare-related field (e.g., MD, NP, PA, PhD, DrPH) required. A Masters of Public Health with significant direct obesity experience will also be considered
15+ years of proven experience in an executive or senior leadership role within healthcare, public health, or a related field
Deep expertise and understanding of obesity, including its causes, challenges, prevention, treatment, and public health implications
Strong track record of strategic planning and execution, particularly in relation to public health, chronic disease, or obesity
Exceptional leadership, management, and communication skills, with the ability to influence and inspire stakeholders at all levels
Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally and manage complex, multi-disciplinary projects
Preferred
Experience in public health advocacy, research, or policy development is highly desirable
