Responsibilities
Key member of the Technology leadership team that will actively participate and provide insights into leadership discussions, create value by measuring and interpreting business strategies, provide actionable recommendations to capitalize on those insights, standardize common metrics and reporting, and define and mature data capabilities and tools
Lead and mentor team, promote growth and development; and define paths for upskilling the organization where needed
Champion for a self-service data-driven culture, data competencies and data literacy across the enterprise.
Partner with business stakeholders and executive leadership to define and execute against a roadmap for capability improvement, associated investment strategy, and planned business insights and how they will achieve business objectives while maximizing the value derived from data assets
Bring thought leadership, project management oversight, and insurance expertise to complex business challenges. Ensure team priorities are aligned with those of the business segments they support, and that they provide partnership on leveraging data and analytics capabilities
Contribute to, maintain, and enhance a robust, enterprise-wide measurement framework which enables executive leadership to clearly understand business trajectory, operational readiness, and other key functional KPIs critical to the successful measurement & improvement of the organization
Align with leaders across the organization to prioritize and execute on BI/Analytics technology enhancements with business deliverables and to implement a robust information architecture and data governance model
Create, execute and actively deliver against a shared vision, strategy and deployment plan to create best-in-class meta data warehousing infrastructure, and analytical and reporting tools
Own and oversee enterprise-wide data governance & quality, putting in place systems to understand information readiness and jointly working with the business to identify improvement opportunities in systems, processes and policies
Represent Data & Analytics needs (e.g., data capture, data reference, data curation, analytical model integration) in initial planning and requirement specification of core system and architecture design throughout development and product lifecycle, then supporting direct reports in executing against those plans
Work with Privacy and Security constituents across the organization to ensure that EMPLOYERS is managing/maintaining information in a compliant way. Strategize and communicate with the same teams to ensure there is clarity around information requirements and how data needs to be enabled in order to move the business forward
Understand and drive a pragmatic data infrastructure strategy which can expand as the business grows but enables rapid development/testing/deployment capability in alignment with IT and security standards
Ensure that data infrastructure, including technology platform, reporting tools and the data itself, is sufficiently robust to support the current and emerging needs of the functions. Entails staying abreast of relevant data projects, best practices across the industry, and relevant new technical innovations
Partner with all functions to leverage and disseminate reporting and analytics best practices. Establish management dashboards to provide actionable and timely business insights for each operating area of the company
Own Enterprise KPIs, Executive Scorecards, and associated benchmarks. Oversee Quarterly Performance Reviews of metrics with shared insights on performance improvement opportunities
Own process, tools, and implementation of cross-functional Test & Learn Strategies and Services, leveraging metrics to identify areas of improvement across different applications & channels
Provide strategic partnership to business stakeholders and their organizations, helping guide decision making on recommended process/application changes and/or strategic initiatives to enable the organization to reach their goals
Communications with senior management designed to present relevant information in an impactful manner. Communicate the state of the business to senior audiences in the organization with a strategic lens leveraging key data and reporting insights

Required
10+ years experience leading a data, analytics, and business intelligence function within a significant business that has delivered strong value to the business with demonstrated continuous improvement in business intelligence capabilities and processes; overall 10+ years of increasing responsibility within a data, analytics, and business intelligence function
8+ years experience in the insurance industry with an understanding of BI and Data Science needs across key group product lines and functional areas
Previous organizational leadership, growth, and oversight of a distributed team of 10+ individuals required
Demonstrated knowledge of Data Science approaches including analytical models, statistical tools, machine learning, AI and how these can be leveraged within insurance
Demonstrated successful execution and oversight of analytics, reporting, dashboarding, and data-quality improvement initiatives
Experience in data governance, oversight, cross-organizational alignment, and data quality assessment
Articulated experience in data privacy GDPR/data regulations, and emerging trends
Strong experience in data & analytics platforms, uses & alternatives including key Data Sciences and BI Tools
Experience in third-party data usage in the insurance industry and how this can be leveraged for operational and/or growth improvements
Background in data integration, warehousing, current implementation methodologies
Undergraduate degree required; graduate degree preferred
Ability to interact with colleagues at all levels, especially senior executives, work through influence across functional boundaries to achieve goals without direct control over resources. Deliver results while coaching and mentoring other team members
