Responsibilities

Collect, identify, and compile environmental data from water samples and other matrices for projects and surveys.

Perform water resources engineering work and assist with investigations and inspections related to water supply, quality, and management.

Ensure the planning and management of water supply remains safe for various end uses.

Develop technologies and strategies to reduce pollutants and environmental impact.

Execute project work individually or as part of a team.

Prepare data visualizations and reports for data interpretation.

Maintain quality control standards for measurements and reporting.

Assist with small to medium-sized projects and concept design work.

Contribute to technical reports and presentations explaining research findings.

Assist in the analysis and interpretation of environmental data.

Prepare and implement site Health and Safety Plans.

Adhere to ethical decision-making and company policies.

Required

Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering, with a focus in Water Resources or closely related discipline.

3 to 5 years of relevant post education experience in water resources engineering.

Engineer in Training Certification.

Knowledge of water resource engineering principles, practices, process, design/build, and the application to environmental permitting and project work-related issues.

Knowledge of Stormwater Management, Drainage, Erosion and Sediment Control, Hydrology & Hydraulics Design, Watershed Studies, Floodplain Delineation, etc.

Ability to coordinate with agency regulators and understand requirements.

Knowledge with the concepts of reducing and eliminating the use or generation of hazardous substances, processes, or products., and mitigation programs.

Knowledge of the techniques used in identifying, measuring, sampling and studying environmental control.

Knowledge of relevant environmental laws, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.

Basic experience with preparing permit applications for oversight agencies to address the full range of environmental issues and conditions associated with water resources projects.

Capable interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.

Effective self-leadership with attention to detail, results orientation, and managing multiple priorities in a dynamic work environment.

Ability to learn new techniques, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, follow instruction, work independently, and comply with company policies.

Moderate proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, technology, math principles, predictive models, spreadsheets, and tools.

Familiarity with surface water analysis, hydrologic methodologies/models (TR-55, HEC-HMS, etc.), hydraulic models (HEC-RAS, HEC-RAS-2D, HEC-GeoRAS, SRH-2D, etc), and with ESRI ArcGIS software.

Experience with coordinating technical matters with public and private groups

Critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to apply technical knowledge to reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, statistical analysis and arriving at the most effective, economical, and logical solution.

Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.

Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.

Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
